Speakeasy at Piedmont is a hidden cocktail room in downtown Gastonia, North Carolina, reached through a vintage cigarette machine inside Piedmont Delicatessen at 125 E. Main Avenue. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. There is a door behind the cigarette machine that very few people open. On the other side: a room with low lamps, oxblood leather, and a piano that sometimes plays when the right person sits down. We don't print menus we can't promise. We don't keep hours we can't honor. What we keep is the room — quiet, careful, and exactly as it was the night you first stepped in.
Quiet rooms make brave conversations.

No. 01 · The bar, after the machine.
The doors close on the dot. The room does not.
No photography. The room is for those in it, not those who would prove they were.
No standing at the bar after the second pour. Conversation belongs at the banquette.
Reservations only after eight. Walk-ins on Thursdays, if the room can hold you.
Quiet voices, please. A jazz trio plays on Fridays — they have the only loud part.
Be kind to the bartender. They remember everything, including your last drink.
— with our affection, the management.

There is no sign. There is no list at the door. There is only a quiet street, a brass sconce that flickers at the right hour, and the warm sliver of light beneath a door that doesn't look like anything at all.
